What's with the comic book sticker on each 'Smos & Baby Bee' flyer book?

What's with the comic book sticker on each 'Smos & Baby Bee' flyer book?

You might have wondered, or perhaps you figured it out already? Watch closely to the middle drawing of this excerpt from the album 'De blauwe broertjes' by Belgian comic book hero Nero, first published in 1999. Nero was created and illustrated by Marc Sleen, who used a list of references (Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, ... Smos & Baby Bee!) to denounce the lack of knowledge about popular culture of one of its main characters.

This piece of comic, which first appeared in the newspaper on a blue monday morning, nicely illustrates how widely known the name Smos & Baby Bee was in the 1990s. Smos in particular, a comic book fan himself, was very delighted with it.

The book (with sticker) is still for sale at our webshop Afterclub.be (free shipping).
