The story behind this iconic image began with our 2024 book Fuse: 30yrs of making noise. While searching for photographic archives of the legendary Brussels nightlife institute, we came across the name Peter Ooms. We discovered that the photographer now lives in Germany, and were fortunate to include a significant part of his archive in the book. His contribution proved essential.
One of Peter’s photos featured in the book quickly drew attention. It was republished by French online platform Dure Vie and went viral, amassing thousands of likes and shares.
How did we figure out the date of the Fuse photo print? It breathes the spirit of the 1990s: the cars, the clothes, the absence of smartphones. The Fuse News booklet held by a clubber allowed us to date the image with reasonable certainty to November 1997.
